Bill Me Later – Awshit

I remember seeing this advertised back in the day… but now they are owned in the same group as eBay/Paypal… which actually scared me away from using them.  Anybody who uses (as a seller) paypal and/or ebay knows the nightmares they can cause.  In December I decided to give them a go just to do a little more for Christmas presents.  It was very simple to use and served it’s purpose well.  I made my first payment early and it was a little complicated as I had to do a bank transfer instead of just using my paypal balance… kind of a hassle but no big deal.  Then came a barrage of advertising/spam from them… it was pretty much daily.  Constantly talking about deals, and new stores added, etc.  Then nothing for about a week…. and then I got an email which I thought was my invoice telling me that my bill was due… something you would get and expect to get from any credit card online or via snail mail…. but no… it was a late notice…. with a $25 fee added to my balance due.  I emailed customer service asking why I didn’t receive an invoice and they responded with this:

We have received your inquiry regarding your Bill Me Later account.  We appreciate this opportunity to serve you.

You are currently set up to receive your billing statements via monthly email reminders.  These emails are being sent to the email address we have on file shortly after the 24th, each month.  These notifications are reminders that your new billing statement is ready to be viewed on our website.  You can log in to our website at any time to view your current statement as well as the past 12 months of billing statements.

If you are not receiving your monthly statement reminder, please check your email service setting to ensure that our emails are not being automatically routed to your spam folder.

A $25.00 late fee was assessed because the $35.00 minimum payment due by 01/21/12 was not received on time.

They are sending me reminders to my email address SHORTLY after the 24th… but my bill is due on the 21st?!  This is the kind of thing Bank of America would do…. and then a class action suit would follow. :)
